Transformative Sound  (By drischord)

I have a 3-channel amp, and when I engage this pedal on the clean channel, it transforms my tone even more than the two "dirt" channels. It's really amazing.

As some reviews have noted, this pedal occupies sort of a middle ground between some of the most famous fuzz names (Big Muff, Tone Bender, etc). Personally, I find it more versatile and more usable than any of the standard issue fuzz boxes. I actually think Big Muffs eat more tone than they produce and it's really hard to get definition out of high-mid frequencies with them. On the other hand, I find that while Tone Benders are clearer, they lack that truly sound-changing saturation that "fuzz" ought to imply.

The Candy Apple Fuzz (gold lettering) accents treble frequencies more than a Big Muff and so it works well for soloing. Notes stand out on their own and aren't drenched in gnarly mud. That said, this pedal oozes saturation. Think '90s Smashing Pumpkins or Meat Puppets tone.

When you turn the Nature knob between 11 and 1 o'clock, you do get the "octave" effect that various people have mentioned. It's subtle, but I think you want it that way. You probably don't want heavy octaves all over your chords AND your riffs AND your solos alike... and this isn't the kind of pedal you want to engage/disengage throughout a song. There's a huge difference between "off" and "on," so it's better to have a tone that you want to keep throughout the whole song. That's why a subtle octave effect is probably better. That said, I'm not currently dialing mine in for that octave effect. I think it's a little overbearing to have throughout a song.

Three things to know: One, the pedal definitely accentuates certain treble frequencies, even when the Tone knob is panned left. Two, the fuzz effect is always somewhat engaged, even when the Fuzz knob is panned all the way left. So you couldn't cut the fuzz completely and just use this as a boost or subtle overdrive. I think most people would expect this, but just want to make that clear. Last, I think this pedal works best on a clean channel. If you feed it into a dirt channel, it gets kind of tinny. In fact, I'm finding that I like it best AFTER an overdrive pedal in my signal chain. I know that a lot of times, you want a germanium fuzz at the front of the chain, but I find that when you add overdrive BEFORE the Candy Apple Fuzz, you get a nice solo boost, whereas if you add overdrive after it or have overdrive in the amp itself, you lose the full spectrum of tone.

I bought this on sale so the price was nice, but even at full price, I think this is a better purchase than the usual stock fuzz pedals out there. (Posted on 6/8/15)

I have been using this fuzz all summer and i must say that It has become one of my go to tones for soloing. Big, soaring tone but not splatty. (of course with the controls you can certainly get into gnarly tont territory if you desire)Very musical and tons of sustain when you want to step out and take command of the stage. add a bit of delay and it is just Heaven. It sounds great on slide guitar. Stage and studio this is a keeper pedal for sure. I want another one for my secondary board. As a matter of fact...hmmmmm!
I am not getting much of the "octave' effect as i had anticipated as it seems very subtle but i wouldn't trade this pedal for anything. And as with any good piece of gear if it inspires your creativity then you are on to something. The Candy Apple Fuzz is in that league.

Have you watched the demo videos? Then you know what this pedal sounds like!

I've played it with humbuckers through the clean channel of a Mesa Boogie Express Plus 5:25, and it sounds rich and nasty. And with the Tone, Fuzz, and Nature knobs, you can dial in a wide range of tones.

You need no other fuzz than this. Get one, and hear for yourself. (Posted on 7/16/13)

BearfootFX Candy Apple Fuzz

The BearfootFX Candy Apple Fuzz is a versatile germanium-hybrid fuzz—one of Bjorn’s original BJFe designs. The CAF has an obscene amount of gnarly fuzz on tap and a few tricks up its sleeve. The Nature knob has a host of options that you have to explore to figure out—with the knob at noon, you unlock an octave effect, at other spots on the dial, you’ll find a gated effect. As with most of Bjorn’s designs, this fuzz pedal is shockingly quiet.

Bearfoot FX is the brainchild of Bjorn Juhl of BJF Design and Donner Rusk of Donnerbox. Every pedal is handpainted and no two are exactly alike. The pedals now ship with a plain, unpainted bottom plate to help ensure the most secure contact with adhesive Velcro for use on pedalboards. Bearfoot FX pedals are handmade in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

BearfootFX Candy Apple Fuzz Features:

    • 9v power jack (8-18v range)
