Think I Got A Lemon  (By Zak Whiting)

This pedal sounds great and does everything it says it can and more better than any other tape delay-based pedal I've ever heard. The selling point for me was the buffered-bypass option as I was using a true bypass delay and wanted the repeats to continue after turning off the delay. The fact that it happened to be an EP-3 based delay made it even better. It would be all five stars if it weren't for the fact that mine broke down about four months into owning it. I should have sent it in for a warranty deal, but I never got around to it, and now it's expired. Still, the tone was so good, and the features were exactly what I was looking for in a delay, so I plan on eventually buying a second one, and you can bet that if this one goes out like the first Belle Epoch I owned, I won't be putting off a warranty return for it. If yours works, it's the best delay out there. (Posted on 11/8/14)
The Video Demos Don't Do the Tone Justice  (By Scott)

I was sold on this pedal based on the various PGS and Catalinbread videos. I knew this was the delay wanted because I heard so many of the Page and VH (among others players) tones coming out of it. The moment the pedal arrived, I plugged it in and was even more blown away. Touch-sensitivity is astounding on the Belle Epoch. Chimes, gritty barks, and (of course) spaceships! But truly, the sound of this pedal is amazing. It does the basics of delay beautifully and allows those beautiful quirks of the EP-3 to come out. This thing is wonderful. (Posted on 9/23/14)

This pedal really has a great EP3 preamp tone. This was my favorite feature on the pedal. This pedal is really cool but you can't use it live easily since there is no tap tempo. Every other TAPE delay out there has a tap tempo. When CB makes a tape delay with a tap tempo I am selling my Strymon El Capistan and going CB delay all the way, I really dig CB pedals! The Belle Epoch arrived today, and right out of the box plugged into the front end of my Metro amp 50w kit, I built in 09, the Belle Epoch sounds amazing. I don't use lots of delay, but this thing has me playing in new ways because it sounds so good. None of my various dirt pedals give me the sound that comes from the pre amp of this pedal, it gives my already distorted amp a sweet, fattened sound with just minimal delay settings. This pedal is a keeper no regrets, would purchase again, off to play some more. (Posted on 4/10/14)

This pedal saved my pedal board! I absolutely LOVE the preamp and what it does to my entire rig. I run it into my Catalinbread DLS and Blackout Effectors Musket and it really makes them sound great. I turned up the gain on the preamp and switched it to Buffered mode so it is always engaged. Helps remove signal loss with the buffer and boosts my amp just right. That's not even including the actual tape echo part of the pedal! This thing sounds like a dream. Beautiful sound, just takes my playing to another dimension. This is my first quality delay-ish pedal and it made my last one seem like a cheap, bad joke (if my last delay pedal was worth 80 bucks, this one should cost 350 based on how much better it sounds).

Anyway, I'm just one happy customer, but this pedal did a lot for my setup. (Posted on 11/13/13)

I played drums in a band back in the late 70's & 80's and our guitar player had an Echoplex and I loved the sounds he got out of it. I bought this mainly for ambient sounds with my Neunaber Stereo Wet Reverb. It is exactly what I was looking for!!! However, just having this pedal on with minimal repeats and the mix level at around 9-10 o'clock this pedal will fatten up your overall tone. I would highly recommend this pedal. It's a keeper!!! Ive always wanted and echoplex emulator, but i felt like a bunch of the one they had out sucked with the expection of stymon's El Capistan, but that effect is too complex for me. I just want to play! Then i saw this and knew it was exactly the delay i wanted. Lots of tones to be found in it. No tap tempo or presets but that doesn't matter to me, it's all about the tone and this unit has a gorgeous tone. Works great with distortion and clean. (Posted on 9/14/13)

As a long time owner and regular user of an original '72 Maestro Echoplex EP-3, I have to admit that this pedal is extremely close to the sound and feel of the real thing (I did an A/B shootout to make sure). I have searched a very long time for a delay pedal that could approximate the character and anomalies of the EP-3... I believe that Catalinbread has filled that void. Way to go... Belle Epoch is a real winner!!! (Posted on 9/12/13)

The Belle Epoch is not just a "pedal;" it is an experience. The organic repeats just melt under the tone of your guitar, practically oozing character with every strum, swipe, and slide. The inboard preamp is rich, full, and subtle, adding just a hint of warmth to your guitar signal, which is excellent for rounding out transient tones in a most musical manner. The ability to push the repeats into giving out a crunchy overdrive is quite powerful, especially when introducing it to an already saturated amp or pedal. Frankly, I cannot say enough about the Belle Epoch, as Catlinbread has delivered on all fronts with this item. I look forward to what they will create in the future. (Posted on 9/11/13)

Catlinbread hits it out of the park here. Having owned and used Ep-3s in the past, and drop kicked them off stages when they ate tapes, I'd say this is exactly what modern technology is for. Hated the real thing in terms of noise, maintenance, and size. Just an unreliable mess. The Belle Epoch does the job, sounds spot on, and is stone quiet. NO HISS into a gainy amp. Coolest feature is the way the MIX control and the TONE knob interact. Almost a ducking feature if you use less TONE and more MIX, or very in your face echos with more TONE less MIX.
A 'perfect storm' of 1. great product 2. great marketing, and 3. great service from PGS.

I've had Echoplex envy ever since I saw Joe Walsh and The James Gang opening for The Who in 1969 use one on his last song and he put down his guitar and left the stage with this great riff just playing and playing and playing without him there. Made quite an impression on this budding guitarist. Anyway, Catlinbread has created an Echoplex in a pedal. And my friends..they have nailed it totally! No matter the amount and types of echos/delays you now have this one deserves a place on your boards. They even incorporated a pre-amp that can be used without any of the echo functions. Worth every cent. You will just sit there for hours wondering how you did without one. (Posted on 9/9/13)

I own a lot of delay pedals and this is by far the most inspirational pedal I have played in a while. I took it out of the box set all the controls at about 11 o'clock and sat there for a long time without even touching the pedal.

Let the war of opinions begin - and just ignore the purists who can afford a real tape echo, with all its upkeep and $$$ for catridges - this is a pedal for %$#^ sake. With that said, and having just spent 3 hours running this gem of a device through its paces, I call winner. Catalinbread has outdone themselves with this one (and yes, I've used the real deal - know the difference). Save yourself $800 and another $150 a year. $200 is a steal for the incredible sound, functionality and musicality of this magic box! (Posted on 9/7/13)

Catalinbread Belle Epoch

Not content to have created a stunning reproduction of the Binson Echorec, Catalinbread has tackled the insurmountable task of recreating the Echoplex EP-3, the legendary tape echo used by everyone from Jimmy Page to Eddie Van Halen.

Catalinbread has stayed extremely faithful to the characteristics of the EP-3, and effect that was known for making your signal sound great even when it was in bypass! The Belle Epoch has the same subtle tone-shaping effect and slight boost as the original. Additionally, CB designed this pedal to create the same degradation of repeats as the EP-3 and also tips its hat to the sound of the tape head traveling across the tape—no detail was spared in recreating the sound and experience of a real EP-3 Echoplex. You’ll be wondering how they stuffed all that tape in the box.
