Great Marshally sounds, great addition to my pedal lineup.  (By Blondeguitar)

I just got this pedal and so far so good. I will argue that 18 volts sounds the best! You can get great cut through the mix lead tones, and it really responds when you start digging into the guitar and cleans up well by playing lightly or turning the volume on you guitar down. Great pedal for the money. I would like to see an added dip switch to select between super lead and super bass modes. (Posted on 4/13/14)

It is a great pedal. I got it from the Free Pedal Friday, and i felt so lucky. I plugged it in whit my sg, and it is a good high gain pedal for playing metal, blues, rock, or whatever you want; it's not that usefull as an overdrive (im kind of disapointed about it). The thing is that it doesn't get along whit modulations pedals, like phase 90. And it doesn't get along whit my vox wah to. But you can get some great fuzzy tones, and you can get some Hendrix things to. Whit the bridge pickup i got some Nirvana thing to (to bad that it sounds pretty crapy whit my Small Clone, but Ok).
It's fine to play dirty stuff (also whit some octave pedal, or some whammy). It's well built, and it's weight is little.
But i would prefer other pedals, like DS-1, or TS-9 (Posted on 3/6/14)

Wow ... Just bought a Twin Reverb and needed some dirt for my sound. I have been using a JCM 800 for years and wanted that tone. I'm not saying this pedal is identical to that sound but it's damn close. Straight out of the box and into the Twin with a Les Paul and burstbuckers this thing is a beast. Love it ! Sounded great with a strat as well ..
If you are thinking about this pedal don't wait its worth it (Posted on 2/7/14)

I have the DLS MK1, the first one and it rocks. I use it with my Marshall Class 5 tube amp and it gets great tone. After listening to this demo, I am going to buy the MKIII and swap between the two. I have a hot-rodded Fender Strat with TBS tone and Fender Texas Specials running through 500k pots. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul standard with Seymour Duncans which really makes this pedal shine. By the was the guy that plays for your demo's rocks! I really enjoy your demos.

Cheers,

well to start, i use a 100 watt plexi so......THIS pedal gives me the cranked up sound at a lower volume. very transparent and not buzzy if you set it correctly.my only gripe is that coolness starts at about 1/3 of total level which is LOUD. not as loud as a cranked SLP but if you are looking for whisper quiet practice.....you need a small amp. controls are very familiar in operation, seems like they influence each other. with the amp at a good volume this thing kills it. tremendous girth of sound. cleans up nicely by rolling back your vol knob. I believe you could indeed leave it on all the time. the thing is, this pedal doesn't choke my sound down. very open sounding. good string to string. I like it. my DLS is currently fighting a battle to the death on my board with my old dirt box.

Not like Catalinbread's demo in Youtube  (By Jimmy)

When I saw the Catalinbread demo DLS in Youtube, I loved. Although I heard from local dealer, they said it's not what people imagine. But I still bought it from PGS. The box is good, the weight is as light as the nowadays pedals. However, when I plugged into my Marshall JTM-30 all valve amp with Gibson LP, it sounds really sucks! Even I changed Strat, ESP with EMG, Jackson with SD, or PRS, it couldn't get better. So..., I used OD to boost it, useless... then I thought it's a OD, I used it to boost DS or Amp, the high frequency noise is not acceptable. Then I use MXR 10 band EQ to shape it, stil... useless. Terrible sucks! I gave up!
One day, I brought it to band jam, Gibson ZW Flying V to DLS to Marshall 2000 100W 4x12. It sounds better, but it kust like a normal overdrive pedal with more power, nothing special. The 3 tone knobs can't change so different, just a little range.
So, don't trust the Youtube. If you have a good big Amp and the other good thing can always let pedal sounds good, then buy it. If you just have a 30W amp or smaller, and you are an Distortion & Metal lover, DON"T but it! (Posted on 11/26/13)

This pedal is numero uno for me these days. Using the Marshall 50w Bass setting gives me the tone I have have been failing to get through other pedals for way too long. Free at last! (Posted on 7/1/13)
Really great JTM sound...BEST at 18 volts  (By Terry)

This pedal really nails that JTM tone. It gives more gain than the old plexis probably had, but that is always good to have more gain on tap.

I liked the pedal a lot, but when I started running it with an 18v power supply it just came to life and was very open. That is my suggestion for people who get it. (Posted on 6/25/13)

I thought at first "it's not really all that"... but then I noticed I'm not using my other over drive options anymore. I need to spend some more time integrating with the rest of the pedal board but out of the box its displaced it predecessor. (Posted on 6/25/13)
An inspiring Guitar player's pedal  (By Abbacus)

Catlinbread is making a lot of cool player's pedals and this is one of my favorites. It stacks well with other pedals and is very touch responsive and dynamic. I use mine in my dirt chain before a Catlinbread RAH and after a MXR Custon Distortion, Fulltone OCD and a DOD YM308. The DLS III is the beefy, Marshal Super Lead (or Super Bass) in a pedal that will inspire you to rock! Very amp-like for a pedal. I use Strats and LP's and do wish (like everyone else) that the toggle for switching between Super Lead/Super Bass was accessable without taking the back off the case. This thing has a ton of gain available in Super Lead mode and the Super Bass mode really takes you to early Hendrix / Hey Joe-ville in style with a Strat. (Posted on 6/25/13)

When I first got this I wasn't all that impressed. I really haven't been a big fan of the Marshall distortion boxes I've bought in the past. The pedal was in Super Lead mode. I remembered that the pedal had internal switches to tinker with, so I figured before I sell it I'll give those a whirl. I opened it up, switched to Super Bass mode and WOW. 100% Improvement on tone. Nice and thick, works well with all sorts of tones. I enjoy all sounds I've gotten out of the Super Bass mode and I wont be selling the pedal. (Posted on 6/24/13)

I received my DLS yesterday and I am very pumped about it! Unfortunately I didn't get it from PGS because they were out of stock. This pedal is fantastic in sound! It really stacks well with other pedals (I use it with my Blackout Effectors Musket Fuzz and it sounds great). When I first took it out of the box I thought it sounded a little dull. I was disappointed until I remembered that it has an internal presence control. For whatever reason it was all the way clockwise, which apparently meant minimum presence. I adjusted it and it really came alive. I won't say, "Buy this pedal and it will forever change your life because it is magical." I will say, "Buy this pedal and you will not be disappointed with its natural, ballsy, amp-like sound." (Posted on 6/13/13)
Great plexi pedal!  (By Edward)

This is the best-sounding SL box I've ever tried. Had the DLS v1 and the Wampler Plexi Drive and got rid of them both. This one addresses the issues I had with those boxes. Definitely dig the SB mode and the added mid control. The bass control is much better on this than the Plexi Drive's bass switch. My only issue with this pedal is that the mode and presence switches are internal. My answer to the mode switch issue was to order a second DLS. Will be nice to have both sounds available on my board. I can see a day when C-bread moves those switches to the outside and and possibly makes the modes foot switchable. The sound is there regardless and can also get into JCM territory. It's a keeper! (Posted on 2/25/13)
Meh.... overhyped  (By Topsy Krett)

I just got one because of PGS's glowing review & video. When I received it, I tried it through my best-sounding amp, a blackface Deluxe Reverb. What I got was not quite a "plexi-in-a-box which transformed my tone". I hate to be the naysayer, but I just don't get all the hype about this box. It does what it does, nothing special really. The control set is good, although the tone is just okay. I have played Marshall plexi's a few times and this is not the sound I recall. It gets fuzzy-buzzy at higher gain settings, though it might work better run cleaner and used with other dirt pedals, as mentioned. (Posted on 2/22/13)

Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII

Catalinbread has a whole new Dirty Little Secret. The authentic Marshall sound of the MKII version has been redesigned around a new JFET for an even more substantial sound and greater tone sculpting versatility, with two independent circuits each delivering the distinctive sound of a classic Marshall Amp. Unlike a common overdrive, the JFET creates its viscerally satisfying tone without op amps or diodes for a richer, more organic sound, and the new three knob EQ is designed more closely to the tone-stack found on a Marshall preamp with an added Middle control.

The Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII offers the harmonically rich sound of a classic Super Lead, or, at the flick of an internal switch, the beefier sound of the Marshall Super Bass, perfect for single coils and fuzz pedals. Each mode has its own signature gain and tone stack characteristics, and both work as a foundation overdrive, one that you turn on and leave on for its outstanding tone-developing qualities. It stacks perfectly with other overdrives, fuzz pedals, or any other effects. Simple controls include Treble, Middle, Bass, Master, and Preamp knobs and an internal Presence trim pot that lets you fine tune the effect to your guitar and amp. The Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII is wired for true bypass and can run on a 9v battery or a standard 9vDC power supply, but it will deliver extraordinary clarity and headroom with an 18vDC power supply. Let it be your Dirty Little Secret.

Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII Features:

    • All New JFET Circuit Design
    • Internal Switching for Super Lead and Super Bass Modes
