Iommi and more  (By Stringbender)

This item attracted me because of the name, Iomni has always been a major influence since the early days. I'm glad that this device has the name because with so many to choose from, I was immediately interested. I plugged this device into two different amps. I'm only mentioning two for space. One, my vox ac50 using ch1 which copies the ac30, everything on the amp flat at the start and as clean as I could get this one. I was able to get a good Iommi tone very quickly by keeping all the knows at 12 o'clock, although a bit darker because of the amp. With the second amp, a fender 4×10 hotrod deville, the clean channel is a perfect start. This device is a pleasure to play with, it seems to play with the dynamics of the picking attack, not quite compression but almost. Since the device has a bit of overdrive with the gain knob at 0, this device let me find several great tones in just a couple of minutes.
I own and use several distortion and fuzz pedals and have dumped many others because of disinterest, this one I am sure I'll keep as part of my sound for a long time.
It's everything I hoped it would be.
Thanks very much to the designers.

Diggin' it if you're all about Sabbath  (By JohnXL)

The pedal in essence is to recreate a Tony Iommi Sabbath sound so it's pretty much what it does. I play in a Doom band that had a Sabbath feel to it so,even tho' it's not trying to "BE" Sabbath the pedal does a nice job of giving me a 70's distorted/fuzz sound that I've been looking for. Sure there are other pedals that can somewhat re-create the sound and maybe even cheaper but if you're all about Sabbath, this is the real deal. (Posted on 1/8/15)
Good sound...through the right amp  (By Joe)

As a huge Sabbath fan I had to buy this. I've tried various treble boosts over the years; the Keeley Java, the HBE Germania, a BBE Freq Boost, a JMI Rangemaster, and a custom built full range boost. When I read about how this worked it seemed like a no-brainer for me.

I have three amps and this thing reacts VERY differently in all three. If you have to have this pedal, my advice is to run it through the cleanest possible amp you can dialed in with a relatively warm tone; I get the best results from a Fender 68 Deluxe Reverb reissue.

As far as I'm concerned considerably overpriced for what you get. Now that I've found my favorite sound with it I'm convinced I could get that one sound out of a modified Big Muff, which would be much cheaper. The only saving grace in my eyes is how the boost function works as a full range boost.

The only reason I'll hang on to this is because it might be collectible some day. Unless you play in a Black Sabbath tribute band you should pass on this one. Be prepared to build the rest of your rig around this pedal if you really want it to work right. (Posted on 12/10/14)

I don't usually write customer reviews online but I just had to for this product. Catalinbread really hit it out of the park with this pedal. If you are a fan of Black Sabbath or doom metal at all, you need to get this. It's that good. Thank you Catalinbread for building such a great pedal. (Posted on 12/5/14)

I've had Brian May record in my home studio(no B.S.) playing a FERNADES TRAVEL VERSION OF HIS RED SPECIAL with a single hum bucker and learned a few things along the way.We achieved his tone with that guitar and a red guild treble booster into a korg re-issue AC-30 with the blue speakers..After that day of pinching myself,Iv'e owned 4-5 real treble boosters...germainium...silicon....including the Cornish TB-83 and the one constant issue is the amps you are pluging into have to be the right amps and they need to set perfectly for these to work right .For the Brian May tones the dull normal input of the AC30 ... speakers... and EL-84 tubes being abused plays a larger role in the tone and the dynamics which would be a difficult trick for any SS pedal to duplicate..That said these new CB pedals seem to get you around 90 percent of that problem of having the amps front end preamp perfectly set.Lookinbg forward to trying these. Great pedal, with insane sweet spots. I'm loving the tone through the clean channel on my Ampeg Reverberocket. I had to double check the logo on my Amp to make sure it wasn't a Laney.
Pretty good through my Blackstar rig as well... but where it really shines is through my Mesa/Emperor rig.
Homygod! I grew fingertip prosthetics and my SG downtuned itself and became a lefty... not really, but I felt like all the sudden I was in the mind of Iommi.
It really lifted off with a Maxon OD 808 in front of it, and I sandwiched it between the Maxon and a whiteface ProCo Rat.
Doom on steroids!
My only gripe is the lack of any accompaniment manual or literature from Catalinbread. Although they packed it like a pro including an anti-static wrapper and a sweet sticker.
The pedal is gorgeous, sounds amazing, and is built to survive a nuclear bomb. Definitely not a dime a dozen, and definitely brought out my inner Iommi. Enjoy! (Posted on 10/27/14)

I bought this pedal based on the killer graphic design alone, haha and being a fan of Sabbath guitar tone. I have to admit, this pedal is taking me time to fine tune in my set up, but it's great. When dial in just right, wow, Iommi...it's amazing. There's a nice range of adjustment, not a one trick pony. Excellent quality as usual. Run at both voltages, both cool sound. Get. Got this in the mail the other day and all I can is bravo Catalinbread. Alot going on here in this four knob box and its all very exciting, yes alot of Iommi's tones are in it and while its fun to play those tunes the real fun is in how much this little monster can do. At zero gain you have a nice 70's crunch that needs no help sounds amazing right off the bat and at the other end of the extreme you can drive this pedal into thick wooly fuzz tones very easily. Andy covered alot of this pedal but theres so much more to find if i had i the funds i'd get another one right now. (Posted on 10/13/14)
Perfect cross between overdrive, distortion and fuzz  (By Tomahawk)

This pedal is 'the' pedal i was looking for; it's the perfect cross between overdrive, distortion and fuzz. Better attack & definition than a Big Muff and not as muddy. The Treble Booster gives a certain mean grainy sustain that can be cutting with a sharp attack (CCW) or bassy with a fuzzy feel (CW). I prefer Iommi 70's tone to his modern tone, and the Sabbra Cadabra definitely nails the former. I also tried the pedal with an 18 Volt power supply; it does give a sharper attack and more headroom but i think it sounds perfect at 9Volts. It still a nice option to have though.

If you think you can get the same tones with a "MXR Super Badass distortion or Metal distortion" it means that you don't know or can't hear the difference between tube amps, overdrive, distortion and fuzz. And no, you can't replicate the sound of the Sabbra Cadabra with a Fuzz Face (MJM London Fuzz) and a Treble Booster; it just doesn't have the same agressive bite.

I could not be happier with this pedal, well sone Catalinbread!

Yes this pedal sounds good. But you can find other pedals that can produce the same sound for alot less money. For example. the MXR Super Badass distortion on Metal distortion sounds every bit as good as this pedal for $70 LESS money. Even the Boss Metal distortion. I'm sure there are plenty of others that sound similar for less money. This pedal sounds good, it's just way overpriced.

Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra

While bands like The Beatles are widely credited with influencing modern rock music, there is perhaps no band more blatantly aped today than Black Sabbath. Sabbath's exquisite smoky riffs have helped shape music for decades, even spawning a whole new genre named for fans of the... "Sweet Leaf." And the linchpin of this riff machine is a man named Tony Iommi.

While other pieces of gear have come and gone in Iommi's rig continuum, two have remained constant: a monstrous stack of Laney amps and a treble booster. We give you: the Sabbra Cadabra by Catalinbread.

Inspired by Iommi's Laney Supergroup amps and Rangemaster treble booster, the Sabbra Cadabra may well be the final word in nailing Iommi's tone from the foundation rather than the aftereffects. Too much emphasis is placed on fuzz pedals coupled with distortion and whatever else. Why not start at the blueprint: two pieces of Iommi's gear that are always on as long as a guitar is in his hands.

The Sabbra Cadabra can be run at up to 18 volts, which increases headroom and gives a sharper attack, which allows a player to slice through the mix like a champ. Alternately, the unit can be powered by a starved power supply or weakened battery, down to three or four volts. This will soften the tone up significantly, but the changes are certainly significant. Give it a shot!

Each Sabbra Cadabra is handmade in Portland, Oregon and wired for true bypass. It can be powered by either a 2.1mm center-negative 9v or 18v plug, and the current draw is low enough so that it is power supply-ready.
