Excelent, albeit pricey, Marshall-in-a-Box  (By Doron Eshel)

So, the British invasion has ended, at least for the time being. A Vox AC30 and a Gurus 1959 Double-Decker sit snugly on my studio floor and grin (or, in the AC30's case, Green...).
This is a great combination, as you can get the clean, chimey, open, bell-like sounds the Vox is famous for, and, at a click of a button of the Guru's DD, replace it with a Marshall '59 head going thru these 2x12" Greenbacks. Cream heaven.
The '59 Double-Decker is everything it's promised to be. Its 2 channels produce authentic, rich, warm, and dynamic Marshall-like sounds, and the boost function allows you to go solo on every setting there is (including bypass), which makes it actually a 2.5 channel pedal or a 3-pedal-in-one (OD+Dist+Boost).
But, hey, leave the math aside. I bet you'll soon find out you don't need another pedal on your board (OK, add delay and reverb if you insist) to get Beano-, Cream-, early JP- (sans-modulation), Angus-, or even Slash-like sounds from your amp. Any amp. Heck, I even got decent sounds from my old solid-state (V12-celestion-equipped) Marshall. And if something's amiss, the 3-band-eq per channel can always help you hit that sound you've been yearning for.
The "radio-style self-disengaging" knobs do take a bit of getting used to. If you're out soloing and want to get back to rhythm levels, you have to press the channel button, not the solo button. A bit counter-intuitive. Other than that - no complaints.
Didn't try the various output options yet. These include DI out (Bal./Unbal. with optional cab. sim.) and effects loop, but, hey, I have to leave something for tomorrow, don't I ?

So, my two cents (tuppence, rather) : Great Marshall-in-a-box !
And my 5 cents are : Great Marshall-in-a-box, a Bit Pricey .....

What I like: Sound, build quality, sounds, tweaking options, soundss, looks, and, yes, you guessed right, soundsss.
What I don't like: radio-style-buttons, price.

The price-effect will disappear with time. You tend to forget how much you paid when you buy the next thing. I wonder if the radio-style-operation will grow on me too...

So, if you've got the bucks, this one's got the tones you need. Buy. (Posted on 6/23/16)

Gurus Amps 1959 Double Decker

It’s the rare pedal that can travel seamlessly from the stage to the mixing board without losing any usefulness, but that’s a key feature of the 1959 Double Decker, from Gurus Amps.

The Double Decker is an all-in-one drive/boost solution, as it features two separate channels and one Boost channel.

To begin with, Gurus has equipped all three channels with radio-style switching—only one is active at any given time, and is switched off when a different channel is switched on. This gives players full control of the sound. If a player wants to move from Channel 1, to Boost, to Channel 2, that’s three clicks instead of five.

Each channel shares a tube preamp and is equipped with a full range of controls: Individual three-band EQs, along with Gain and Volume controls outfit each channel. An effects loop on the back is complemented by an effects loop toggle; players can set it to run in parallel with the pedal or serialized between the two.

The best part of the 1959 is its recording capabilities—a jack on the rear of the pedal is switchable between a DI out and a speaker simulator. This simulator is modeled after a close-miked 2x12 cabinet using a Shure SM57—pretty specific stuff, and crucial to great recording tones.

Two separate footswitch outs allow players to control each channel remotely, which is another handy studio tool. There’s honestly not much in the world of dirt not featured on the 1959.

Each pedal comes equipped in a sturdy, yet beautiful case. The front panel is laser-etched and illuminates when powered up.
