One of the best designed compressors for guitarists. Ingenious design and versatile.  (By Steve Steele)

I've owned this pedal for a couple of years now, and I feel compelled to write a review after A/Bing with my modded Boss CS3. The Forest Green CB is one fantastic and ingenious compressor. The CS3 is not a good compressor for a boutique type amp. The Attack barely works. The Sustain starts getting noisy at about the point you want it at. It's ok with a cheap low volume amps. You'll get lots of sustain there.

The Forest Green CB is almost a miracle. Playing through a Bogner Ecstasy, the CB was very quite on the clean channel and very reasonable on the gain channels. The tone when on is ALIVE, Great on clean, mid gain and high gain tones (not too many compressors can do that!. Just a beautiful tone. This pedal can be left on if in Sustain mode because the attacks are fast. Just makes your amp sound always creamy.

The Compressor/Sustainer Switch is great. I leave it on Sustainer mainly to get a quick attack, but use the Compressor setting when I need some squish. Not sure what the ratio is in Comp mode but not as much squish as other pedals, but it's still good.

The Tone knob works! If I need more bass out of the amp (or if I use the pedal with my basses), dialing it counter-clockwise adds some nice bass, 12 o'clock is neutral, and all the way right gives a slight treble boast.

What's interesting is the interplay between the Level and Compressor knobs. READ THIS. The Level control, in Compressor mode adjusts the overall volume and the FGC CB can be used even as a booster. In Sustain mode the Level no longer adjusts total output but the level of the sustained part. That's ingenious!

The Compressor knob: Sets the amount of compression and sustain. Lower settings give mostly peak limiting, higher settings more compression and less touch sensitive response. At maximum the output will be heavily compressed, while still retaining clarity at almost infinite sustain.

The Forest Green CB is one of the most well thought out and designed pedals I've tried. It's the best pedal on my board.

Pros: The is a compressor for guitarists. Maybe the best design. Not a sound you can't get. Less noisy than most. Tone actually does something. Compressor/Sustainer Switch is a perfect idea for guitarists. Unless you need a Ross type comp, or Opto, this is the only comp you'll ever need.

Cons: Not the most squishy comp. A mix knob would have put this thing over the top, but by deign, it almost doesn't need it. If you don't know how to use a compressor, it may be a little confusing.

However, try this setting as a staring point: Sustain Mode, Tone at 12 (but turn the knob and it's very obvious what it does), Compressor between 11 and 2, and for Level, match your bypassed signal and work from their. Remember, the Level and Compressor controls work together. Eventually learn how they interact.

Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor CB

The Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor is now available to the masses. The redesigned pcb isn't the only difference though. The Forest Green Compressor CB features a re-designed Tone control that now gives transparent response at 12 o'clock allowing the user to increase or roll off the treble content unlike the hand-made version. The CB version also has eschewed the mini-toggle switch (Sust./Comp.) in leiu of a rotary switch for more durability and easier use. The same great tone and compression are still available in the Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor CB and now within reach of a broader range of guitarists.

Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor CB

The Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor is a professionally designed pedal made for discerning guitarists that need functionality and tone without any of the fancy extras. In sustain mode the pedal is perfect for long sustaining lead tones and due to the decreased attack time, it is capable of keeping picking dynamics intact and working perfectly with overdrive pedals or higher gain amplifiers. In compression mode the Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor is perfect for peak limiting for guitar and bass or will provide plenty of squish for those who so desire. Dial the tone knob to around 2 o'clock and kick on the sustainer for tight country chicken pickin or serious bluesin. Bring the tone knob all the way back for transparent sustain and compression. The Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor is perfect for any genre of music or style of playing and the interaction between the controls will allow for all kinds of unique tones to be had.

Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor CB Features:

  • True Bypass
  • Standard -9vdc Operation
  • Rotary Compressor/Sustainer Switch
