more versatile than 3 knobs  (By fuzz lover)

I have a stack of high end fuzz boxes, mostly germanium and a couple hybrids. The PGS videos sparked my interest, especially the range of fuzz and sounds Andy coaxed out of it with different guitars.

The Park Fuzz Sound arrived on a day I was home with a nasty head cold, not in the mood to move let alone play. Reason I mention that is I succumbed to curiosity and fired up the pedal (Callaham tele, 1958 Gibson GA-5, Lava cables). Totally underwhelmed. Thought it had a singular sound (a really good one, but I've already got that territory covered with other boxes), didn't clean up much by backing off the guitar volume, basically a one trick pony.

This was my mistake: with most Fuzz Faces, I dim the fuzz, apply a touch above unity on level and control the fuzz through my guitar volume. I've never thought of fuzz boxes to be more than the original design - simple is better.
2 days later, healing, I fired it up and started to make small adjustments to the knobs. Holy shit! I've never heard more nuance in a fuzz. The permutations are far too many to list. They all sound good and have a place in your soundscape from an attenuated (I'm avoiding the word 'thin' since there is nothing thin about this fuzz) 'spaghetti western' '60's to all out in your face early Black Keys meets Stooges harmonically rich deliciousness. Weirdest part for me: with the gain all the way CCW, it still sounds awesome.

You can spend hours hunting out new tones from these 3 knobs. It really is a standout in my collection. I've heard 2 criticisms: 1. you can't read the knob (too shiny, not a deep enough groove) & 2. it doesn't clean up.
They are right on both. My take: 1. I adjust according to sound, not the location of an arbitrary mark, 2. this fuzz was never meant to be clean and that is such a good thing.

Price & value: all my Analogman boxes cost $225 and up. I love every single one of them. At $175 this fuzz is a steal.

Great job. Buy it, you'll be happy. (Posted on 4/8/15)

I had looked for what seemed years trying to get the right fuzz pedal. I bought Vintage and new fuzz pedals, Tone Bender, Russian Muffs (green & black ) Watson , T Rex, and a lot of others. Came across this on You tube by luck. I had heard of the Park brand before but didn't have a clue they had made a fuzz in the past. Well anyway... saw the P.G.S review of the reissue and was blown away. I decided to take a chance mainly because videos and real play are very different. The pedal build is great and the sound ...... ANDY NAILED IT. Its very versatile. From Low Fi dirty to just really really punishing. Very Stooges in someways. I've anyways like Earthquaker Devices and knowing they did their homework and tried to work form true old design is a breadwinner for me. Seriously delicious. (Posted on 2/6/15)
Great Fuzz  (By Steve)

I just mine got a week ago............after using a nano Big Muff, I wanted a more '60s' germanium fuzz sound and this delivers. One of the features I like most is with the fuzz turned all the way down it doesn't mute the pedal it is still distorting and sounds really great. Before recieving the pedal I had sorta' decided to get rid of the Big Muff. Instead I put the Big Muff before the Park Sound and use them in unison. Though I don't do it all the time when paired together they create a very unique fuzz that I totally dig. I can only compare it to the fuzz sound I hear in Dan Auerbachs' tunes. At any rate I love my new Park Fuzz Sound. One of those pedals I'll never get rid of. (Posted on 1/10/15)
Great sounding, a few issues  (By wildstar)

A great vintage sounding germanium fuzz, as we heard in the video. I like mine so far tonally a lot, and it nails an early Blue Cheer type of sound, among others. If you're into a late 60's style of fuzz, this one is for you. The tone knob has a pretty wide sweep, mostly from thin and reedy to a much fatter woolier sound (and all good). With the gain cranked, it gets pretty hot and searing in a great way. It doesn't clean up when you roll back the volume as nicely as some others I've tried, but that's ok. My biggest issues are two design concerns. 1 - the mirrored top of the knobs make it almost impossible to see your settings with any kind of overhead lighting (like a stage). I'll end up having to sharpie in the lines I think. And the knobs themselves feel a little cheap. 2 - the battery just sits pretty loose in the box. There's no clip or pad or anything, and it rattles around in there. I don't want to discourage anyone, it's a great sounding pedal and with Earthquaker building them, it should be solid ( i have several others of theirs on my board). But I have to mention the downsides, for what they are. (Posted on 12/10/14)

Park Fuzz Sound

The Park Amplification company, originally started by Jim Marshall himself, has almost as much history as the actual Marshall name. As the story goes, Jim Marshall entered a distribution deal for his amp line in 1965, but the terms of the deal were vague enough such that Marshall could build amps on the side, just not under his own name. Thus, Park was born, and the amps produced under that name were slight variations on Marshall circuits until the company dissolved in 1982.

Among the line of amps, a few pedals were also produced. Most of them were wahs or variations thereof, but one pedal stuck out: The Park Fuzz Sound.

The original pedal (we had one) featured unlabeled TO-1 package transistors, so one would think that the circuit left us with Jim Marshall. However, the good folks at Earthquaker Devices, in collaboration with the newly-resurrected Park Amplification, have faithfully recreated the Park Fuzz Sound so that a new generation may enjoy it.

While the original deployed the aforementioned mystery cans, the new Park Fuzz Sound uses a different set of NOS germanium transistors, hand-selected for a tonal match. Indeed, when A/B’d with the original unit, the sounds were strikingly similar. In fact, the staff at PGS was split right down the middle as to which was which. What’s more, when doing the test, we had to set the new Park Fuzz Sound’s Fuzz control at about half, whereas the original was dimed. The reissue has way more range in the Fuzz dial than the original.

Another bugaboo of original fuzz pedals is the powering situation; in the case of the original Park, it’s powered by a battery only but changing it out required using a lever to pry open the lid. While that’s a hassle, using batteries is kind of a hassle in and of itself. However, this and many older fuzz pedals are positive-ground; the common workaround is reversing the lugs on the power jack internally, but this configuration means that the pedal cannot be daisy-chained. The new Park Fuzz Sound doesn’t phone it in, offering a chip inside that corrects the voltage problem for complete rig integration.

The new Park Fuzz Sound is hand-made, one at a time in exotic Akron, Ohio. The pedal is wire for true bypass and accepts a standard 9v center-negative Boss-style power adapter. The current draw is low, so it’s ready for your isolated power supplies.‚Äč
