Great Pedal for Rock/Blues  (By Murf)

The Archer is a solid great sounding pedal, built like a tank, and easy to dial in for quite a range of great sounds. I haven't found a bad sound in it yet. Works well with single coil and humbuckers. Price is very fair. I've been using it for about six months now and it's staying in my effects chain for the foreseeable future. My previous go to pedal for the last 15 years was a Fulltone Fulldrive 2. The Archer is putting up a challenge for 1st place where a lot of other pedals have not made the grade. GREAT PEDAL!!!! Awesomeness Update  (By Donald)

I thought the clarity was awesome. I have a ton of dirt pedals and they all stack great with the Archer. Get your Archer set like you want it. It is simple but don't underestimate how interactive the output and gain are. Here is the key that blew me away: Run your other dirt pedals INTO the Archer. If you have a pedal that sounds good but seems anemic, the Archer will give it balls. If you have a great sounding pedal and run it into the Archer, you will never use that pedal without the Archer again. Once again the clarity is great. Used it on the intro to Hell's Bells and it was amazing. Get this pedal. Love it so much I ordered the Archer Ikon too. (Posted on 6/15/15)

I love this pedal. Such clarity in each note. I cranked it all the way up into the clean channel of my Marshall and was astounded at how clear each note was playing the intro to "Hell's Bells". Awesome pedal! Get you one. I cannot foresee this pedal leaving my board ever! (Posted on 6/7/15)

I'm always searching for the holy grail to touch the unicorn, this is by far the best pedal you can get, a magic box that can take you to new dimensions. Over the last year I have tried or purchased a number of pedals, this is the only one that has been added to my pedal board. (Posted on 4/2/15)
Klone or not, this pedal is fantastic!!!  (By Jessie)

This little (and I do mean little) box has a hell of a lot to offer. Just as advertised, it is a fantastically built transparent boost and low to mid gain overdrive. I will say that you lose a little of the "transparency" when you turn up the gain, but not in a bad way. Just like a Klon, you get that mid-range, kind of nasally thing going on and especially gets compressed and creamy with a good set of humbuckers pushing it. The treble control is quite responsive and dialing in the right settings couldn't be simpler. I put this guy next to my Timmy pedal and they get along like long-lost friends! I can't really speak to how well this pedal stands next to an actual Klon but I can't see how it really matters. Even if its only 95% there, when you factor in that it's less than $200 (great price by most boutique pedal's standard rates), a fraction of the size, built extremely well, and maybe most importantly…available, what's the difference really? (This is where the purists' heads explode) I also need to give props to the crew at PGS. You guys are awesome! This is only the second purchase I've made with you and both experiences were great! Quick and painless! Thank you! (Posted on 3/27/15)

I love this pedal- I'd have to say it's definitely my favorite of my drive pedals, and I have Wampler, Catalinbread, and Lovepedal offerings as well. It does what everyone says, can't go wrong with its clean boost or drive functions. Something nobody really comments on though is the tone knob- I think that's where a lot of the magic resides. You can really nail any shade you want, and it really shapes the dirt voicing as well. I love what a healthy dose of high end from the Archer does to my '68 Gold Top- brings out all that ancient wood in that beautiful, resonant, elusive quality that great old Pauls can have. Really brought it alive. 1970's Page/Frampton tones galore.

Great pedal, and while I've never played a Klon, this does everything I want. (Posted on 3/27/15)

Very happy with my amps. The Archer just gives you "more". This is exactly what a Klon does, but smaller footprint & fair cost. Buy two & have a backup if it's feasible, and if pedal fits your needs -- it can't be this good, and this inexpensive, for long. Not a knock on Klon, J. Rockett or anyone else -- Rockett really did their homework on this, and it shows. Credit is due. (Posted on 3/27/15)

The J.Rockett Archer overdrive pedal is just superb...I use it to boost an already crunchy Marshall plexi amp over the top for some killer sustaining leads !!! It sounds beautiful...very smooth and punchy ! The controls are very sensitive and interactive and they allow you to dial in just enough drive to smooth out the tone,...or simply to just use it as a clean boost...The treble control's range is very wide and usable across the whole frequency spectrum...I own about 15 high-end OD pedals and this is one of my favourites...I highly recommend it. Peace ! (Posted on 3/27/15)

I have never owned a KLONish pedal but I have owned a lot of distortion pedals and overdrives. This one is deftly one of the best. The first great quality is the headroom, there is a lot of rich sounds in the pedal that would appeal to any guitar player, but BE AWARE!!!! The pedal will bring accentuate your base sound (Guitar + Amp) it will not change, color or cover any thing that you don't like about your sound. The second thing (which no one seems to talk much about) is the buffer. I usually had my true-bypass overdrive pedals after the tuner, wah and phaser, now this is the first thing in my board.... great for keeping the tone clear in the chain. (Posted on 3/11/15)

Lives up to the hype. Plays nicely with others. Small footprint with a large sound. A keeper for any type of style or volume. All around sweetener. Great as boost, better as gain boost. Can't lose acquisition. (Posted on 2/18/15)

Ordering was easy. Shipped the next business day and arrived two days later. It was packed well (as the USPS did bang up the outside carton quite a bit. So PGS's service is stellar once again.

The pedal is amazing...built extraordinarily well, sounds incredible, basically lives up to the hype.

Thanks PGS and Rockett. (Posted on 2/4/15)

This pedal is incredible for the price, build and what it does. The Archer by itself is a wonderful tone machine, from clean boost to creamy,
jangly overdrive. It plays nicely before or after vintage pedals(the buffer is nothing less than great), and modulation effects like the Catalinbread Echorec , Belle Epoch or Pigtronix Tremvelope, Envelope Phaser or Echolution.I have not tried it with my EH C9 yet, but I am sure it will make it sound even better. This pedal is an absolute keeper on my pedal boards. (Posted on 1/29/15)

This is my first Clon clone, and it's an absolutely amazing pedal. As a clean boost, it can't be beat. In fact, I'm inclined to get a second so I can use one as a clean boost and the other as an overdrive, as the drive sounds are just killer! I can't say enough good things about it. Buy one! very good "real" Klon rendering  (By Paul)

This pedal does not reinvent the wheel, but it is none the less an extremely good, real Klon circuit. JRADs builders made the last KTR models and this one is their version if they had been given design inputs. A real Klon to be sure. Can be touchy to tweak in or use w a chain of pedals but if you like drive collection like me, this is one you'll want.
Ranges cool enhancement clean boost to smooth gainy, has the real Klon buffer. Quality build,, nice stiff pots, heavy little bugger.
Despite what you hear, the Soul Food is not really a true Klon, it does not have essential Germanium diodes. Cheap is cheap. A Klon for $179, this and the ARC at $200, best going. Real old Klon for $1500, just no freakin' way. JRAD Archer gets a recommend from me. (Posted on 1/24/15)

I'm not typically prone to submit reviews, but this Archer pedal deserves a shout-out. I've never owned or played a Klon, but have ammased a healthy collection of quality overdrives over the 30+ years of strat-o-casting.... Rockbox, Zendrive, Blackstone, ProValve, and a host of others. I couldn't beleive what I was hearing when I played the Archer. Dynamic. Muscular. Rich harmonics and overtones. Dimensional. I've played it in front of a Mesa Lonestar and a vintage 60's Princeton, each producing a perma-grin.
Truly a superb and remarkable pedal. Well done J. Rockett. (Posted on 1/22/15)

When I bought the pedal I had a Blackstar HT-5RS Ministack. The pedal cleaned up the amp beautifully and added a clear tone the amp would not have had otherwise. Sold the HT, picked up a Custom-V Supersonic 22; yes the one from PGS and Fender. It sounds completely different to my ear on the Supersonic. I like the 22's OD over the Archer. Make no mistake, the pedal is rock-solid, sounds great, and a lot of different, clear tones are in that pretty silver box. My 22 doesn't need help reducing buzz and you can get an EHX Soul Food for less than half the price of the Archer. (Posted on 12/25/14)
I GOT WOOD  (By sixstringesq)

You know that woody, open, airy, clear but warm, human voice belting wide open tone that you lust after? This is it. Without a doubt, this is the best OD/boost pedal I have played. My R7 into a 50W plexi just oozes that tone you have in your head. I have/had a nice amount of quality boost/od/dirt pedals to compare (TS808, Amp50, Paisley, Koko boost, all varieties of Boss, OCD, EP, RC, Boiling Point, Java Boost, JHS Klone, pork loin). You know that sound you associate with the word organic? That is the Archer. Transparent, I don't know...maybe? Don't really care about transparency when it sounds so good. I still have a KTR and A/B'd for a while. They sound 99.5% the same. It really took some seriously listening to notice that the KTR sounds just .5% more compressed. I bet that's just my head playing tricks on me though since it is probably an identical circuit. I havent played through a gold or silver klon, but at $1500 a pop, I have no desire to when I can have the Archer at under $200. (Posted on 12/23/14)

Seriously warm and organic overdrive. Pairs well with tubescreamers (I prefer running a Wampler Clarksdale into it). Adds violin-like sustain to the front of an overdriven amp. Through a Rockverb 50 MK1 I can get a standard MIM Strat to hold a distorted note for 10+ seconds. Would buy again. Might buy a second one for a second board. (Posted on 12/16/14)

Once upon a time in the late 90's I owned a Klon Centaur and played the hell out of it. It was stolen years later and I tried for many years to replace it. When the Klon KTR was released I patiently waited over a year. I played it, but it never met my expectations of what I remember my Centaur sounding like. Then I came across the J Rockett Archer. Oh man this is it! This is what I remember the Centaur sounding like! I am in tone heaven. I use it for everything...boost, overdrive, soloing, etc.. this pedal is a keeper and it's never leaving my board! (Posted on 12/15/14)
Best KLON klone ever made.  (By Love to Rock!)
Price

Pretty simple; This pedal sounds just like my Silver Klon, and a bit better than my KTR. The price, build and tone kill. My ONLY complaint is the Battery Lock design, but that's just because it's new I suppose. The Archer is at it's best hitting the front end of an amp just on the edge of Break-up. It's next to impossible to get a bad sound out of it, and it stack really well. And depending on your Pick Dynamics, it can be an "always on" pedal, then using your guitars Volume, you can get your amp to yield beautiful low to medium gain OD tones. (Posted on 11/11/14)

I've had a lot of Klon-like and have to say this is the first one that I really have a hard time telling the difference from the original Klon. Closer to the original Klon than the couple KTR I have as well. Excellent pedal, feels great when you're playing into it. Can't wait to get another for my other board. (Posted on 10/14/14)

J. Rockett Audio Designs Archer

The Klon has been cloned several times by several companies. Yet through it all, whenever Bill Finnegan offers up a batch of the new Klon KTR pedals, they sell out in minutes. That said, when Bill needs those KTR's built, there's one builder he calls upon to do the job. And that builder is J. Rockett.

The J. Rockett Archer delivers the authentic Klon experience in a tiny form factor—even smaller than the rest of the Rockett line—with top mounted jacks. For those of you that cannot justify (or simply accommodate) a large enclosure for a buffer and overdrive, Rockett has heeded the call.

I know what you're thinking: where's the magic? What's the diode situation? Fear not, tone seeker, the fine folks at J. Rockett Audio Designs have poured over countless diodes in search of "the right ones." In fact, we challenge you to tell the difference between the Archer and a silver Centaur with your back turned. These diodes measured forward voltage extremely close to the original Klon diodes, and who would know better than the builder of the circuit?

The Archer delivers the sweet sparkling boost and creamy overdrive of the original silver Klon Centaur without the gargantuan footprint. But perhaps the best part is that you can pick an Archer up for less than the price of a used car.

The Archer accepts a 2.1mm 9v center-negative Boss-style power adapter. Just like the original Klon, the voltage is doubled internally for high headroom. The current draw is low—isolated power supply ready!
