EMG Pickups
Originally called Dirtywork Studios, EMG Pickups was started in 1974 in a garage. The name was changed to Overlend in 1978 in reference to the overextension of credit the company was suffering. The name EMG (Electro Magnetic Generator) was adopted in 1983 and it has stuck ever since.
EMG Pickups has been manufacturing passive pickups since 1985 but they are mainly known for their active designs. The EMG Standard Series of active pickups are stock equipment on many high end guitars such as Jackson, Dean, and ESP. They make up the bulk of EMG’s pickup designs and reputation. Made to outperform any existing pickups, EMG has used many innovations over the years to set their designs apart from others and keep performance top notch from all their products.
EMG Pickups are extremely popular in the rock and metal crowd due to their high output gain. EMG’s are commonly seen with such players as: Tom Morello, David Gilmour, Steve Lukather, Zakk Wylde, Kerry King, Les Claypool, Claudio Sanchez, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Judas Priest, Deftones, KMFDM, Metallica, Slipknot, and Dethklok.
