The Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter
The
Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter Tremolo pedal is an all analog, dual mode tremolo
pedal. The SFX-07 Rate mode allows a
steady speed from 1 to 20 cycles per second to be manually adjusted by the rate
knob. In Ratio mode, the tap switch sets
the rate of the tremolo and also gives you the option of setting a tap-to-note
ratio: 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1. With this
function the Shape Shifter Tremolo lets you decide on 1/4 notes, 1/8 notes,
triplets, or 1/16 notes. Another
distinctive feature of the Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo is the Shape control. Normally a tremolo has an even relationship
between the time that the volume increases and decreases. With the Shape knob at 12 o’clock, this characteristic is
maintained, however when you move it left or right, the relationship
changes. The SFX-07 will deliver a short
volume increase followed by a longer volume decrease or vice-versa which will
add a very different feel to the overall effect.
Shape
Shifter Tremolo Tone
The
Seymour Duncan ShapeShifter is a very natural sounding Tremolo. The all analog signal path keeps your tone
pristine and gets a very vintage vibe from the Shape Shifter. With the Wave control, the SFX-07 can deliver
smooth creamy tremolo or choppy square wave style chop. When a short volume increase is coupled with
a long volume decrease via the Shape control, the tone gets very percussive and
piano-like. We found the Tap control extremely
useful in a live situation where the drummer is your metronome and quick
changes are a must. The Seymour Duncand
SFX-07 ShapeShifter Tremolo is the most versatile tremolo pedal we’ve seen and
it also delivers the vintage ‘50’s style tone that most tremolo fans will
adore.
