Love this pedal  (By Doug From Ontario)

I've had this pedal for three days, and I'm enjoying all the things it can do. I wanted a delay, so why not buy nine for the price of one? It's seems very well made and has excellent fit and finish. At this writing the T ORG setting is my favorite, as on the fastest setting it's more like an organ sound than a delay. (Posted on 3/12/17)
Great sounding pedal for the money, with one quibble  (By Planeteleven)

This pedal has some great sounds, but if you want a normal digital delay, look elsewhere. If you want something atmospheric, this is a great pedal. I already had a Flashback, so it seemed logical to pair it with the Alter Ego. Only one setting is questionable, the '2290 mod', where the modulation is set way too high for my taste - I don't think I'll ever use it. The Reverse Mod also has a bit too much modulation, but because it's reverse, I think it's passable. I would have liked to see a straight-up 2290 delay on this unit with the possibility of a long delay (I mean, it's TC Electronic, right?) but I can put one in the Toneprint with the Tone Editor software. The Echorec and Space Echo are standouts, in my opinion. (Posted on 3/6/17)

The Alter Ego 2 is a terrific echo unit that doesn't take up a ton of room on the pedal board and has great tones on every setting. The pedal even has a very nice chorus tone that is a copy of the Deluxe Memory Man Chorus unit that sounds great. This is a pedal that will not disappoint in stereo either. Every echo type sounds very good from this versatile pedal. (Posted on 2/12/17)

I've owned a Carbon Copy, Vapor Trial, Catalinbread Echorec and Belle Epoch. Still have all those on my giant board of doom, but I bought this during the $99 sale to put on a mini giggin board and it's way cooler than I even thought from the videos. They really nailed the echorec and the reverse is cool. Haven't even dug into toneprints but every setting has at least some usable vibe to it. The slapback tones you can get on more than one setting are really fantastic. Yes the standalone copIEs of all these tones are probably going to win in a head to head but especially if you want flexibility and don't have the boutique copies to compare to, then you will not miss much with this. The variety of delay tones you get for the price are incredible. Saw it was on sale so I decided to snag it while I could. Sounds very cool and although I'm somewhat new to delays the amount of features on this pedal will keep me satisfied for some time. (Posted on 12/5/16)

I scared myself using the reverse delay, wasn't expecting the weirdness so much. Be prepared to freak out, make sure you have an acoustic handy to get back to normal.
I love it, just wished I had the originals of all these spaceship thingys.
A little too digital and dark sounding though, but you can't beat it for experimenting.
My faves right now are EHX. Sound more organic. (Posted on 10/31/16)

I'm very happy with my Alter Ego 2. There are so many great iconic sounds on the pedal and I find it really easy to dial in anything from warm slapback to crazy space sounds. Some of the presets are a little to modulated for me such as the 2290 M but it's really easy to go find the original in the toneprints and add it to the pedal. Tap tempo would be nice but I think the strum tempo works fine and having this many options in a compact design works great on my Pedaltrain Jr. If I upgrade pedalboards, I might upgrade to the x4 but for now I'm more than satisfied with this version. The Alter Ego V2 sounds great clean or dirty. It will complement just about any style with settings that you will actually use, without being overly complicated. Simplicity is always the key. Just set it forget it and Rock on. So at the expense of sounding plagiaristic. All the other reviews have said everything that needs to be said about it. Really, Seriously!!!!! You won't be disappointed. Just get the damn thing already will you. (Posted on 9/26/16)
Complex but powerful  (By Neal)

The power of the Alt Ego 2 is amazing. The looper function by itself is worth the price, and the array of delays and tone prints make the pedal amazing. The power unfortunately makes this pedal complex and I have spent the last two weeks exploring YouTube to understand what can be done with delay. I have already found several very usable tones, but I am just beginning to scratch the surface. The pedal's tone shaping range from subtle to extreme, with the feedback control allowing for cosmic sounds. To get the most out of this pedal requires a lot of exploration and experimentation, but i am sure it will stay on my pedalboard. (Posted on 9/17/16)

As always nervous about a new pedal on my board, but those nerves went away quickly. Not for you if you need to set time to milliseconds. If you want a fun delay with plenty of options for different tone and delays "go for it" you will not be disappointed. Two gigs last weekend and not a problem. Easily dialed in different settings between songs. Relax, have fun and play with it. You can find what you'll need and more. (Posted on 8/17/16)

I had an MXR Carbon Copy on my board as my basic but excellent analog delay and as much as I tried to replace it I always came back to it...UNTIL I got the Alter Ego. It can do pretty much everything the CC does and SO much more! I really love the different toggle settings, plus the strum tempo and stereo capabilities make it even more amazing. As far as the sound there's so much to love, but I have to say the SP preset (Roland Space Echo) is currently a favorite. Excellent all around, would recommend highly! (Posted on 8/11/16)

The Alter Ego V2 is a KILLER delay pedal, especially at the price PGS is selling it for. The sounds are amazing - it's hard to believe you can get this many stellar echo tones for under 100 bills. I personally prefer to have preset amounts of modulation - I usually find a sweet spot and leave it there if I have additional controls. It's compact, looks cool, all of the sounds are great and useable, and you get a freakin' Toneprint slot to boot. I don't think it gets enough love, but the Strum Tempo works like a charm and I love that feature. Come on - just buy it now. End of story. Thanks PGS!! (Posted on 7/14/16)

I read some of the reviews that state there is no use for this pedal in live situations. Totally disagree, you don't use delay on every song and when you do it is pretty easy to bend down and change the setting between those songs, not many songs I know where you change within the tune. For the price and the sound it is an outstanding deal. Just took my Boss DM-2 off the board and replaced with the Alter Ego. (Posted on 7/14/16)

This is the best inexpensive delay I have ever used. The settings are superb, plus they can be tweaked if you download the software from TC. They really put together an incredible package that gives me all of the delay types that I need. Add in the tone print function and no one else comes close as far as versatility vs. value in a stomp box. The only downside is lack of on the box tweakability for each setting, but the necessary basics are there. VERY happy with this purchase! (Posted on 7/13/16)

This is my first delay pedal and for 100 it offers many sounds to explore from vintage rare and expensive tape delay units. Tap tempo is could be improved, but considering everything else it is not a major concern. I already own a looper so the larger delay unit was overkill for me. This pedal doesn't really do a digital sound, but there are ways around that. (Posted on 6/28/16)

The Alter Ego V2 really brings a lot to the table. The pedal is nice and compact, all of the modeled delays are reasonably accurate and almost all of them have easy to spot uses in any guitarists' repertoire. At first I doubted this pedal. It seemed too good to be true. I am also on a very tight budget. I bought this pedal as part of a special deal from PGS. I was looking for perfect analog tones.
The modulation sounds spot-on, the repeats are unique to each device, and the self oscillation rocks (these are the very things that made old analog devices special). The best sounds come when your mix is around ten o'clock, repeats around 1-2 o'clock, with a slower time on dotted eighth or the dotted eigth+quarter mix, especially in stereo.
Let's be honest, it gets the tones you can only get from analog devices. You might not know it does have tap tempo via holding down the bypass switch and tapping on your strings. Useful, and something that surprised me. Lastly, another cool feature is if you are self oscillating with repeats maxed, you can cycle through each device and the repeats will continue, but with the sound of the new device. It's a cool feature, especially to compare the repeat sounds, since each are unique. (Posted on 6/15/16)
Studio Quality Rack Mount Delay In A Pedal  (By E)

After owning a Boss DD-3 pedal for 28 years I wanted something different sounding in a delay pedal and after narrowing down some options I decided to go with the Alter Ego 2 Delay. I'm amazed at the number of diverse and complex lush sounding delays this single pedal can produce. It's like having a studio quality rack mount delay in a pedal. The delays are lush sounding. Patience is a virtue with this pedal, there is a huge palette of sounds built into this pedal so you need to experiment with different playing style/techniques along with the delay settings for each delay preset. This is not a "one size fits all" delay. The more I play with the pedal the more I love it. What's really nice about this pedal is the TC Electronic Tone Print feature. The Alter Ego 2 pedal can use any of the TC Electronic Flashback digital delay pedal's Tone Prints, or you can use the Tone Print editor to customize your own unique delay preset in the pedal's Tone Print slot. It's a lot of pedal for the money! (Posted on 5/19/16)

Finally got a chance to dig deep last night with this pedal and the first thing I want to mention is the tonal quality. None of the patches in this unit suck out your tone but rather that the richness of the tails actually enhances what you put into it. The details and character of each of the models is distinct and recognizable and yet subtle. In other words, TC/PGS didn't just take the characteristics of each device and exaggerate them in their models. As another user noted, you can really set it up and just move through the models and never touch the other knobs and have a wealth of sounds, but dig in for real fun. If you need presets, move up to the big guy. (Posted on 5/19/16)

I have had many delay pedals (two vintage deluxe memory man, boss dd3 and dd7, line 6 echo park, memory man with hazarai, memory boy) and today I can say that the alter ego v2 is the best for its versatility. It has great tones (I recommend to put Xotic EP booster before to get real epic sounds), you can combine quarter notes with dotted eighths at the same time with a simple switch. It has a looper, and you can design your own delay with the toneprint option. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and its price is unbeatable.

This is a TC flashback with better sounding and more interesting presets. It takes no time at all to find the sounds you want with it. The strum/tap tempo feature is very cool. It can be used as a looper. It has played nicely with all the other pedals I've thrown at it (except a vibe... that got bad). It sounds equally great with guitar and an electronic piano. I don't own the exorbitantly expensive effects this claims to emulate, so I can't comment on how accurately it captures them. I can say that it sounds just plain good... That's all I care about.

For those that complain about the lack of savable presets, get the Alter Ego x4. It's the same effect with a bunch more features. The v2 is smaller, cheaper, and if you don't need presets or MIDI, it's an amazing delay. (Posted on 1/6/16)

Got this pedal to keep the vintage sounds on my board while I give the Alter Ego x4 a break. Put on the DD-20 and missed the great analog vibes so I ordered the little brother (Alter Ego v2) and am so glad I did. I've owned this pedal 3 times and every time I get rid of it I end up missing the sounds and ordering another. I can't recommend this pedal enough if you want the colorful vintage echo's of all the classic, and with the flexibility of the tone print feature you can load any modern sound you want! I was building out a small pedalboard and not a lot of rooms for pedals, so versatility was key. That's what I love about this pedal. You have a lot of very different choices. Not everyone will love every delay, which is the point. Something for every occasion. And with the toneprint feature, it's limitless what you ca do with it. So perfect for my small board.

And TC Electronics is unsurpassed in quality. They've been around a long time, and produce some of the best gear on the market.

I would buy this now if you are thinking about it. I bought one from PGS on Black Friday. I have owned TC Electronic delays in the past. I really like this one. There are some pros and cons. The looper isn't really useful. The 2290, and reverse 2290 are not really useable either. The oil can delay model is unique, I don't think it is unusable, I think it needs to be used with other effects to get a "sound effect." Personally, I think the oil can delay is cool. The best models are the Echoplex, DM2, and the Space Echo in my opinion. It is a bargain, can't complain (at this price range) I think it is the best delay out there. (Posted on 12/4/15)

I bought the Alter Ego v2 for its wide selection of vintage tape delays and price. I am blown away by the sound and versatility of this pedal. So much so that I recently purchased a second one so I can have one of on each of my pedalboards. I also love the audio tap feature although I seldom use it because vintage tape delays had no tap at the time and primarily because the Rate settings/range are excellent.
My favorite settings are the EREC and EP, but there are all really great. And the Toneprint technology takes this over the top. Beam any of the Flashback Toneprints via your smart phone.
If vintage delays and versatility are your goal, the Alter Ego is the pedal. (Posted on 12/1/15)

Great variety of delay types on this, I just wish it would have had updated firmware when I got it so the strum tempo setting worked out of the box. The looper is a little weak considering that there are four knobs on the pedal and only one works; no adjustment for loop volume vs. other volume. Maybe they could fix that with another firmware update. Also didn't like that you have to go and get a special cable to use the tone print editor on an iPad. Oh well, still a useful, good sounding delay. (Posted on 11/28/15)

The Alter Ego X4 is too big not so the V2 seem perfect. I sold it for the various reason already mentioned (no presets, tap tempo, terrible 2290 modes). After messing around with other delays i realize what it fits in the market. it's meant to be use like and analog pedal but with sonic range of a digital modeler. I truly could not get the sound of the copykat preset anywhere else, it sounds marvelous for U2 type of riffs. Re-bought it and just love the pedal. My favorite are the CKAT and EPl presets. their delay times are different so switching

It works like any analog pedal so i don't have any issue using it live. But if TC came out with a hub to connect through the mini USB port for instant preset changes this pedal would be a game changer! (Posted on 6/2/15)
No Presets = Total Fail  (By Pete)

The bottom line is that a pedal with a huge amount of options, like the 11 different delay models found here, needs the ability to recall presets. This pedal is a ton of fun for messing around in your room but as far as using live, it's very limited. You'll probably find a few dozen awesome settings but be prepared to select one of them cause that's all you can use on stage. (Posted on 4/25/15)
Great moody delays, with a few operational glitches  (By DSE)

Fantastic array of moody ambient delay types in a small footprint, and great bang for the buck - especially as I grabbed one on sale recently. However I suspect the sale may have been to clear out stock which had a few gremlins in them. Every once in a while some of the delay types will stop responding to time adjustments, requiring the pedal to be unplugged to reset it before operating correctly, and most recently the TonePrint setting has become 'stuck' with a preset which ducks the delay completely unless there is no guitar signal at all - to the point where it's unusable.

Also I'll add that I previously had an original Trinity Reverb which had a faulty input jack, so perhaps TC just make these pedals a little on the cheap side. (Made in Thailand) (Posted on 2/22/15)

Either I have a defective pedal or this mother sucks da juice. It regularly kills a new Pro-cell in 2 hours. A Pro-cell is rated @ 550 mah, so conservatively you should expect at least 4 hours, being the pedal draws 100ma.

I agree the modulation on the 2290 sucks. I feel that if you are trying to mimic the idiosyncrasy of a vintage piece that has some weird modulation fine, but this coloring makes a potentially great utility delay less useful like a left handed Crescent wrench (Posted on 2/8/15)

I already own the Flasback delay. My 90% delay was tape and I would just tweak it from slap to Gilmore.
Andy has made an entire pedal on that setting allowing you to play with quirky and awesome delays of the past. I have it currently mostly on the Erec2 that adds these amazing tails and slapback. Worth the price alone! The tone print options are numerous and you can use the TC programming tool which is mind blowing.
Even the on off button, which has no click, is awesome,
I can't read the thing in the dark so currently live iam on the full left Erec or full right, tone print settings.
It sits in front of my fractal axe fx emulator which has amazing delays because it's so good and I can tweak it on the fly!

I got my Alter ego last night and the quality of this pedal is outstanding, I love the tape sounds and the analog delays they add to this pedal, i think this pedal would be better without the organ, and the reverse with mod, also the modulation they add to the 2290 is not very friendly, not very usable, but the other sounds are beyond awesome.

A fantastic pedal has been on my want list since I first saw it here with Andy. It arrived safely and immediately put into service. With everything set at 12 o'clock and the selector on the first sound...... bliss, pure silky delay oozes out of the Laney VC. Each of the following vintage sounds were unique. The controls are sensitive and only small adjustments are needed to alter your sound significantly. All in all, it's hard to get a bad sound. It really is like having 8 echo sounds in one pedal. After playing with it for the past few days, my fav. setting is the TC downloaded effect... don't think I'll replace that in a hurry.
If I have a grizzle it would be the fact there is no instruction manual included in the box ( but plenty of product advertising! ). you need to go to the site and download it, you do need it to get everything out of the pedal. I can't ever imagine using the T Org setting, just too weird, and the reverse echo setting won't get much of a look either.
That said, the pedal is pure class and quality.

I don't see the point of having all these algorithms in one pedal if there's no ability to save presets. No one is going to mess around with the mode knob in the middle of a live set, and a studio engineer doesn't care about the size of the pedal. This seems like a complete waste of money. I just don't get the thinking behind this. (Posted on 9/25/14)

TC Electronic Alter Ego 2

Have you ever wanted a tiny pedal that captures the essence of every delay sound in the history of popular music? We did too. Enter: the TC Electronic Alter Ego 2.

The newly-revamped Alter Ego crams every last bit of information from our groundbreaking Alter Ego X4, but in a much smaller format, and adhering to the phrase "everything you need and nothing you don't." All of our meticulously-crafted analog delay models are in there; the classic Memory Man and Echorec tones are joined by new favorites such as the Copicat, Space Echo and DM-2. And with a TonePrint slot on board, there's essentially no limit to delay exploration.

If you're looking for a pedal to build a budget studio around, look no further. The Alter Ego 2 can essentially replace a truckful of vintage equipment, because it features 10 studio quality delay algorithms (11 including TonePrint). That's a lot of bang for your buck. And coupled with the minuscule footprint, the Alter Ego 2 is just at home in a recording engineer's spice rack as it is on stage.

As is the case with the delay patches on the Alter Ego X4, all algorithms were carefully constructed side-by-side with the original units. PGS actually purchased an original Echorec, Space Echo, Copicat and the rest, to ensure the most authentic delay reproductions on the market. We think we've succeeded, and we think you'll agree.

The Alter Ego 2 is wired for true bypass and accepts a standard 9v 2.1mm center-negative Boss-style power supply. The current draw is 100mA. Make sure you isolated power supply is capable of putting out 100mA of current before assigning it to a tap.

At Pro Guitar Shop our international customers are very important to us. Not only do we pack our shipments securely in a box to withstand the long journey around the world, we will work with you from start to finish to ensure your shipment arrives safely and to your satisfaction. All shipments are fully insured in case of loss or damage.

All International orders shipping with USPS Priority Mail International will ship in a box with Priority tracking, designated with a CJ number. Orders shipping internationally with USPS Priority Mail Express are shipped in a box with Express tracking, designated with an EC number. Customs processing time varies greatly depending on the country and are not included in USPS shipping time estimates. An automated email with tracking details will be sent once the order is processed on the day of shipment.

USPS First Class International - If you order is 4 lbs. or less and small enough in size, it may qualify for First Class International shipping. This is our most inexpensive option and can save money. However, it can take 21 days or longer to arrive and tracking is not as accurate or updated as often as USPS Priority or Express. There is no guaranteed delivery date. Please keep this in mind when ordering. Once it is shipped we cannot do anything for the shipment to find it's location or time of arrival.

UPS Worldwide shipments will show a expected arrival date at checkout. Canadian Customs please be aware there will be a brokerage fee when using UPS, as well as normal customs charges. The buyer is responsible for both customs charges and brokerage fees for all orders.

International shipments are subject to import taxes by the destination country upon receipt. All payment for import taxes on international shipments are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Orders that come back to PGS as not claimed or refused by the customer will receive a refund for the product. Shipping will not be refunded. Please watch tracking on your shipments to be aware of customs processing and delivery.
