Great Overdrive  (By Guitarman)

Purchased the pedal based on videos I had seen. I could not be happier with an OD. Every string note comes through, not muddied like with some other OD pedals. The Gunshot can be dialed back to some blues type tones all the way up to massive overdriven tones. I like the product so well I'm ordering the Peacekeeper to go along side it. I had other overdrives on my board but when I added the Gunshot I took all the others off.
Build quality is impressive. Sturdy and should last, appeals to the eyes, and most important - to the ears.
Yes it's expensive but high quality comes at a price and I find this pedal to be worth the price. If you're thinking about it, do it. Pull the trigger. You'll be glad you did.

I've owned a ridiculous amount of OD and distortion pedals. This pedal covers all of your bases. The distortion (GAIN) can be set for low gain or extreme and the Calibre behaves like tube amp breakup. No gain with a some Calibre...you have a great bluesman tone. Gain at about 60% and little to no Calibre and you have Black Sabbath territory. Along the way, you can dial in Jimmy Page, Angus...really anything. You can't classify it as low or high gain because it can be dialed in to do extremely well at both. Envision a sound in your head, and it can be quickly dialed in. Probably the most versatile OD or distortion (also cannot fit into either of these boxes) I have ever used. It reacts, sounds and feels like you are playing through an expensive boutique tube amp. Works well my Tele and Les Paul. Very impressed. (Posted on 5/12/16)
Game changer  (By Dennis)

This totally changes the response of all my pedals and gives them a whole new side. It's In line with Wampler's Ace30, Plextortion, Velvet Fuzz, Fulltone OCD, Hermida Mosferatu, ARC Klone, Strymon's Timeline, Big Sky and Mobius. It works well with all of these and gives them a new timbre. But above all, I can imitate any Beatles tone because of this unit. Also, the controls being on a lower level are exempt from being kicked and changed during performance......which should be a law unto all pedals.....Boss figured that out over 35 years ago. When will the rest of the industry comply? KUDOS TO THORPY! (Posted on 3/4/16)

The Gunshot sounded great at home and at the gig. It has a nice tube screamer vibe and then you increase the calibre knob to get more compression/distortion. Used it at a gig last Saturday and it sounded great with my strat and Fender combo. I was using a Timmy pedal for the clean/crunch tones and the gunshot for crunchy to higher gain type tunes. Also used the gunshot, after the Timmy, for a lead boost which worked out great. Often pedals sound good at home but don't cut well in a band mix. The Gunshot sounded great alone, sat very well in the band mix, wasn't noisy and stacked very well with the Timmy. Those 2 pedals can cover lots of ground. Also, love the build quality and protection of the knobs. A great pedal that I would recommend. (Posted on 2/9/16)
Excellent Amp-like overdrive.   (By Firebrain)

With a clean boost setting the Gunshot delivers the warmest, most uncompressed and tight sounding OD I've ever heard. It's a notch above my Tim pedal and that's saying a lot. With a high gain setting it approaches older Hiwatt and Orange territory. There's more tonal variation at high gains thanks to the caliber knob. You can easily craft a tone that will notch into any mix. Very, very useful for dense mixes. Love it. I only have two pedals on my board; a tremolo and a boost/OD. So for something to be 50% of my board it has to be serious and this pedal is. (Posted on 2/6/16)
Mixing the Thorpy Gunshot with different amps guitars and pedals  (By Tim)

There's a lot to like about the Thorpy Gunshot. The enclosure design is awesome—its got metal side panels to protect the knobs which means I can pop it anywhere on my board without worrying about destroying it.
It has a nice warm, throaty growl to it, a very vocal quality and it can get pretty dirty. I played it through both a fender princeton and a buddy super drive with a tele, a start, a GibsonV with burst buckers, and a Les Paul with P90s.
With the single coils, I had to dial back the bright a little (which is normal). It opened up really well with the P90s, got nice and round and sounded almost like it was talking. With the humbuckers I got some great Peter Green tones, and it was easy to dial in some Page as well.
Another thing immediately noticeable is how NOT noisy the Gunshot is when your not playing (especially with the humbuckers, gosh it was silent).

It totally opened up the Princeton, possible to the point where I might not really need to keep the Budda around to get that kind of bark and growl.

It does have a bit of color to it, its a character pedal (its a great character too) and its character really effected some of my other pedals. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was significant.
When I ran it after my Analogman Sunlion, it compressed the snot out of the germanium fuzz, it really mellowed it as if I had my volume knob on the guitar down (I could no longer really control the fuzz with the volume knob) and it gave it a real bump to the low end. It was a really cool sound, but if I want full on germanium fuzz, I have to shut it off.
On the contrary, it played very nicely with my Zvex fuzz probe (especially when I ran it into the probe). It evened a lot of the probe signal and made more controllable, so the sensor was still really responsive, but it didn't jump so much in volume (as it sometimes can).
It got unfriendly with my colorsound overdriver clone both ways (before and after). After it buried it completely the overdriver's tone and before, it pushed it into a overly loud, harshly metallic treble.

It was friendly with the rest of my stock, mixing well with some of my oddballs like a WMD bit crusher, Pigtronix Mothership, a boss harmonist (holy Brian May), a MrBlack Tunnelworm, and Earthquaker Interstellar Orbiter.
It was also friendly with my strymon pedals (cap/lex/flint) and a heavily modded small stone.
It was great with my crybaby (I should add though, that I pulled out the buffer in my crybaby, so I don't know how its sounds after a crybaby buffer).
It was also reacted very nicely to my Earthquaker compressor giving me some really intense sustain.

Ultimately, I don't see the Thorpy leaving my board for a while (if ever)
though I'm going to need to do a bit of experimentation with positioning it with my other pedals, likely I'll split the signal after my wah so that I'm separating the Gunshot from the Sun Lion. But after pairing with the FuzzProbe, I'd really like to hear how the Gunshot stacks with the Thorpy Muffroom.

So yeah, I really love the Gunshot. Its extremely versatile and really provides a very musical sounding overdrive with lots of depth and vocal quality to it. (Posted on 1/25/16)

Excellent build quality and excellent pedal. Great design and probably the best looking pedal I own. You know this special when it replaces the original 1980 TS 808 on your board! Ready for the Warthog to come out. (Posted on 11/16/15)
Killer Pedal !!!!  (By Terry Young)

This pedal has earned a spot on my pedalboard which also contains a Zendrive, Ikon Gold, and a Symble. It is truly a "Marshall in a Box". Very , very musical, fat overdrive. You can dial in all the classic crunch you want. I really love the "caliber" control as it controls the harmonic overtones of a classic English type amp. It work in harmony with the "Gain" control, and the mix/adjustment of the two are the essence of the Thorpy's overall tone.. Gary Moore, early ZZ Top, AC/DC tones are all possible with this pedal. It also appears to be built like a tank. "Highly recommended!!!!! (Posted on 11/13/15)

This is one of the best Overdrives I've used. The note detail, harmonics and not clarity are amazing. I have nearly every good one on the market. This and my Van Weelden Royal Overdrive are all I need. The sound thru my Marshall 1974 is pretty much what it sounds like cranked. It get those early Clappo Bluesbreaker tones perfectly and then you can crank it up some and do some serious Headbanger shit..
Bravo to Mr. Thorpe!! Good on ya! (Posted on 11/13/15)
High Calibre  (By Stuart)

It's hard to give a fair rating to a pedal after only a week's worth of messing with it, but the Thorpyfx Gunshot pedal is the real deal. Using the gain, tone, and volume to start brings forth an excellent thick distortion, and the addition of the Calibre knob adds a dueling layer of distortion that spits, rings, and never buries the notes. This thing is a weapon in it's own right. It is on the expensive side, but the quality is top notch. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Andy's video is an excellent representation of the pedal. (Posted on 10/27/15)

Finally something unique and not a copy of someone else's work. Most of these pedals start running together nowadays. The Gunshot is one of the best I've ever played. Even better than the Royal Overdrive. The tones in this box are second to none. The harmonic complexity is reminiscent of some of the most highly regarded amps ever made. All this in a small & sexy enclosure. This is a must. Don't debate it, just do it. (Posted on 10/25/15)

ThorpyFX Gunshot

The Gunshot is ThorpyFX's flagship pedal, and the one pedal that thrust Adrian Thorpe into the limelight. Truthfully, it's quite an entrance; the Gunshot is an incredible dirt pedal.

Truth be known, the Gunshot was actually designed with the purpose of being better than all others. Many manufacturers enter the marketplace with a goal of making good products, but Mr. Thorpe engineered the Gunshot to not only sound great, but greatER.

The Gunshot begins with the Calibre knob, which thoroughly saturates the high-headroom circuit. Keeping the Calibre back lets crunchy note articulation through and cranking the Calibre creates a creamy, violin-like sound that is your solo's new secret weapon. And that's just one knob.

The Volume is standard, but Tone and Gain are anything but. The Tone control is as full-ranged as one could expect from a single tone control. The Gain control has plenty of grit on tap, and when paired with the Calibre knob, the Gunshot can range from a pocket-sized Derringer to a Civil War cannon.

Nothing about the internals falls flat in any respect; the PCB is chock full of Burr-Brown and WIMA components, as well as ultra-tight 1 percent resistors.

Lastly, the polished chrome of the enclosure, heavy duty construction and laser engraving are all made by Adrian Thorpe, an actual British Army Major—and a man that knows the real meaning of "military spec."  That said, the Gunshot is built to last—your grandchildren's grandchildren will someday own this.
