Mysettings are : Volume at 10', Fuzz at 2', Brightness at 5' (max) mode : tight. I can play Red Hot, Hendrix, Gilmour with my telecaster now. Thanks Wampler for this pedal. (Posted on 8/27/14)

Great range of sounds in this pedal. I find the Tight setting a bit more useful as chords stay articulate, whereas in the Big setting they can get a bit wooly and some of the bass notes a wee bit farty. The singing sustain is fantastic for single note leads. I can't tell you how many classic rock sounds I've found in this thing.
And to the gentleman who says he won't buy a Wampler because they won't give him a discount, you're cutting off your nose to spite your face. I understand wanting a bargain, but c'mon man. It's the guy's small company, he can charge what he wants, and the quality is there. (Posted on 2/7/14)

How can you not love this fuzz? All the benefits without the problems. That it "plays well" with other pedals is just Stellar. By not allowing online discounting Wampler, and many other pedal / gear builders are probably trying to level the playing field: big box stores like guitar center, etc. can not then undersell the independent, brick and mortar music stores. If that's the reason, I am all for "no online discounting" as mega-retailers like WAL Mart and Guitar Center play some pretty dirty tricks to squeeze out the independents. (Posted on 2/2/14)
Wampler? Never!  (By Edward R. Vortek)

I'll never buy any pedal from Wampler.

Wampler has a policy whereby they do not allow the customer to take advantage of online discounts. This policy forces "starving artists" to pay full retail for Wampler pedals. Any company that denies it customers the occasional discount does not deserve said customer's business.

This is a bad policy that benefits Wampler only. We, the customer, have the ability to change this! Speak up by spreading this message. Speak up by hurting Wampler as they have you - in their wallets! (Posted on 12/24/13)

Amazing Big Muff variant and much more! I LOVE the tone of this pedal - just can't get a bad sound out of it. Cannot fault the tones I can get out of it and is pretty much the best Big Muff tone machine I've ever played through. As noted by others above, even the high trebles are still really sweet - velvety in fact!

The ONLY thing I'm not keen on is the graphics. Pretty minor negative, but to be honest it's quite generic and boring. It's a handbuilt boutique fuzz pedal after all, and to me it looks more like a mass produced much cheaper type product. I just think Wampler could do more with their graphics, as their sounds and quality of product are top shelf. Again, MINOR gripe for an otherwise leader of its field. (Posted on 12/16/13)

This is the third fuzz pedal I have purchased. I have a, BK Butler tube driver and a Dunlop mini fuzz going into a 65 amps Empire head. This pedal replaces both of those pedals when it comes to recording. Simply amazing! That high end "screech" and "scratchiness" that some fuzz pedals have (sorry for my poor description) is gone with this pedal. Just nice smooth even recording sound. Buy nice or buy twice! This pedal is awesome. It is the best of both worlds of a crisp distortion and a fat punchy fuzz. Nothing has made me want to never stop playing including the day I got my AC30. I bought it on a whim to try something new instead of my big muff pi. For me what the big muff lacked was a sort of clarity and punch that I was looking for, although it is still wonderful for that big muff tone. With the thick setting every strum has a nice cut and clarity that the big muff lacked for me. Switch over the big circuit and every note has that punch and compression that I have pining after for years. For me I have found the perfect pedal that can be used to sculpt any sound I need. Definitely one of the best pedal investments I have made to date. (Posted on 10/19/13)

Fantastic inspiring pedal. Can't say enuff good things on this one. Took my paisley off the board for now and using a nobels odr-1 in front of the velvet for a very different style overdrive. The Velvet cleans up beautiful as do other wampler pedals. This pedal is a tonal revelation and I am a happy camper. M (Posted on 9/17/13)

I saw the demo of the pedal and was really knocked out. Checked it out at the Nashville Amp expo last week and bought it. I never thought a pedal could sound this sweet and smooth and ampy. Always have gotten my tone from a tube amp..now I have something fun to play with that can make any amp sound pretty damn good. If I could sleep with this one I would..it is the velvet fuzz after all. (Posted on 9/16/13)

The more I use this box, the better I like it. I had only been using it with my Tele, which is my main guitar and I loved it, but for the last few days I've been using it with my strat and it's possibly even better with that. I wanted to compare it to another fuzz so I plugged my Skreddy PI9. The Velvet Fuzz just blows it away. I'm going to keep the Skreddy just to have another color in the paintbox, but I know that I won't be reaching for it anytime soon, because I'm enjoying the Velvet Fuzz so much right now. Sweet Sounding Fuzz  (By Larry)

I waited until I played with this pedal for a while before reviewing so I could determine if it was for me. Some pedals sound amazing as soon as you plug them in, and other need a little more consideration. This is one of those that need consideration. Both the "tight" and the "big" mode are extremely useable. Both modes are of the warm sounding variety. The "big" mode has extra low end and lower mids that make it sorta syrupy sweet sounding. Lots of sustain too, even more so in the "big" mode. I've been playing it with my main guitar which is a Tele. I found that pushing the fuzz control past 1:00-2:00 o'clock things start to get a little sloppy sounding, particularly with the "big" mode. I keep mentioning the "big" mode because that is the trickier mode of the two. The "tight" mode is, as it's name implies, more controlled and less finicky. Sounds good all the time. The "big" mode needs more tuning in for me. I really like this pedal. I just bought another boutique fuzz and immediately disliked it (which is a drag because it was expensive) I played with it for a half an hour and I just knew that I wasn't going to keep it. I plugged my Velvet Fuzz back in and started smiling again. (Posted on 8/19/13)

I received my Wampler Velvet Fuzz several days ago and I can't stop playing it. I love it that it is not just a one trick, angry spitting sounding fuzz. One setting is more traditional fuzz to be sure, but the other is fuzz that feels like distortion, but has that killer fuzz sound in the best way. You can get anything from mild rhythm fuzz sounds to off the wall sounds as well. It reacts so well not only to your volume settings on your guitar but to your pick attack as well. They make several tongue and cheek references to famous players and getting those sounds, and you totally can, just dead on them but I find myself reaching for stuff I wouldn't normally try - its a great great inspiring pedal. Well done Wampler!! (Posted on 8/10/13)

I would have to be included in the "I'm not a fuzz fan" group, so I was not sure about ordering this..and it seemed a bit high priced for a fuzz...but I know Brian is a good guy and after listening to the demos I wanted to give it a try. I was pretty blown away, as was the other guitar player at church...yes, I said church...I used a fuzz in church..lol.. And, it was great with my OD pushing it, it was over the top. It also cleans up very well when you back off your pick attack. I'm impressed.
The mode switch on the pedal makes a huge difference and both are very useful. These will prob be sold out again soon as people find out how great they sound! Kudos to Brian Wampler ! (Posted on 8/5/13)

Yep, I was seduced by the marketing hype and bought this as soon as I heard Andy's awesome demo!

I received it yesterday and plugged it in today into my recently bought Vox AC15HW1. WOW! It really did live up to the hype and sounds amazing. Really does have a unique tone and feel to it, but at the same time as the demo, well demonstrated, really nails some classic tones at the same time. Really really happy with this as it covers that ground between fuzz and distortion really well, sounds incredible musical and organic, and also with the guitar volume down and fuzz level down does a fantastic meaty overdrive.

I think this is a keeper. (Posted on 8/2/13)

I have been looking for a nice smooth fuzz with a nice response to volume and alot of headroom. Enter the Velevet Fuzz. Used it in my rig and it blends well with all my gear . Excellent before my od/distortion pedal. Tons of headroom and a very smooth fuzz tone. I play single coils and don't want a typical fuzz. I like smooth and with tons of sustain. This does it and more. Check it out,

Wampler Velvet Fuzz

Sometimes, it's not about chasing a tone from one specific piece of equipment, it's about capturing the tones from the entire signal chain.

Looking back through history, there have been some truly outstanding fuzz tones. In particular, the tones achieved by running a fuzz into a screaming stack. The kind of tones that are just earth shattering in their depth, aggression and smoothness.

Brian Wampler, who's always looking for the best tones to capture, decided the chase was on. Taking the base tones from a very famous pedal and the characteristics of a famous stacked, EL34 driven, amp - decided it was about time those tones were brought together in pedal format.

If you are a fan of the tones of the players like David Gilmour or Eric Johnson, then it could be that the Velvet Fuzz is the pedal you are looking for.

The key to the tone of the Velvet is the voicing switch. In the “big” position, the pedal reacts like a classic fuzz. Loads of internal compression and truly massive tones it really is that “tone” from that “era”. Dropping the volume back cleans it up perfectly so your rhythm can remain clear enough and then your solo's will flatten all those who dare to stand before you.

In the “tight” position, the tone comes in and you get the feeling you have swapped amps as well, those mammoth tones but without the compression and other traits that many fuzz players love... Yes, that's right. If you love the tone of Fuzz but not the reaction of it, this is the setting on the pedal that is for you.
